Criterion E - Evaluation
Criterion A Investigation
In investigation I answered all the questions that I had to do. Actually at the first time I didn't answere some questions, so I answered the questions that I didn' answer later and added on my investigation. I took a personality test and copied the results of it on my blog. I wrote down the things that I'm interested in and what I've done for volunteer on my blog and evaluate those.
Criterion B Design
Criteria B was design of the video that I would film. There were questions that I should think of and answer. I answered all of those. It asked me that who will film the video, which program will you use, what are you going to say on the video and where and when are you going to film it. It was not diffilcult to answer. I answered all of those and I mentioned what I am going to say on the video. The vidoe was filmed by the order that I have planned. I filmed it at home and Haram filmed it. I don't remember when did I film it. I used windows movie maker to edit the video. This critieria was very helpful to film the video.
Criteria D Create
When I was filming, I tried to follow the guidelines that were given to me. I filmed it short pieces, so I could remember what I should. Because I filmed in short pieces it took time. I filmed it many times, so I could choose from the vidoes that I got. I could choose the best video that I filmed. As I planned before I used windows movie maker to edit the video. It took time because all of my videos were short and I had to connect them.
My video is about 2 minutes long. The video should be 3 minutes and before I filmed the vidoe I thought that 3 minutes video is quite short. But when I actually film it, it was long time. I said everything that I suppose to say but it was only 2 minutes.
At the beggining fo this unit we took a personality test. I had took some personality tests before, so I could compare the results. Most of the results were same. For the suitable career for me most of the test results include a businessman and a lawyer. This unit was not as long as the other units but it was useful. We filmed the actual uiniversity entrance video which will be great help.

Investigation
I like to play the musical instruments, such as the guitar and the piano. I like to play them because I have both instruments in my house, so I can play them whenever I want to play it. I like to play some sports. My favorite sport is the soccer. I have been playing it since I was in first grade. When I was young I played soccer at least once a week . But as I became secondary students and as I went to Mongolia I couldn't play it very much.
- the guitar
- the piano
- soccer
- video games
- the clarinet
- catch ball (baseball)
- trip to China (Shanghai, Hangzhou etc.)
- hang out with my friends all day
- play in the orchestra
- play in the band
Most of activities that I have enjoyed are related to music. The guitar, the piano and the clarinet are the musical instruments and the orchestra and the band are the activity that you can play the instruments with others. I spent lots of time to play the instruments and I had lot of challenges. Sometimes my parents stop to play the guitar, because I played it for all day long. They don't really mind when I play the piano or the clarinet. But when I play the guitar and play in the band, they don't really like it.
I feel relaxed when I play the musical instruments or play in the orchestra or the band. Playing instruments is very helpful to reduce the stress.
I love to play soccer, but there's not many places to play soccer in Mongolia. I played the soccer a lot when I was in primary school, however, when I became the secondary student and when I went to Mongolia, I couldn't play the soccer often. I played the catch ball (baseball) few weeks ago with my firends. It was my first time to play it, but it was very fun. I want to spend more time to exercise and I will play the catch ball on every Wednesday and Sunday.
I went trip to south part of China. I went to 3 cities Shanghai, Hangzhou etc. I thought that China would be in poor condition before I went trip, but it wasn't. May be it's because I went to only cities. Anyway I realized that China has developed a lot and is a huge country. For example, when I was in Shanghai, I went to the capital of the city. There were lots of things and was full of people and buildings. I recognized that buildings and stores in China is bigger than South Korea's. Usually South Korea's buildings are tall but not wide, becasue we don't have large land. The trip was the best trip that I have ever had except for terrible weather in Shanghai. Shanghai was very hot when I went there. Furtheremore it's humidity was over 80% which made me crazy.
I often hang out with mu friends after school when I was in Korea. I spent lots of time. It could be called wasting of time, because all we did was went to PC Cafes and played video games or just fooled around the city. But it was not so horrible experience. I had fun and I will remember that time as the most funniest part of my secondary life.
Consider your skills
I’m in the school orchestra and I play the clarinet. It has been almost 1 year since I joined the school orchestra. I like to play in the orchestra, but sometimes it’s very boring to play the same song for a year. We are going to perform our song on the art night and it will be great. We have prepared this song for one year. At the first, we planned to perform the song at the primary performance. However we weren’t ready and couldn’t perform on the primary performance. My clarinet has improved a lot by this activity and I learned how to play the musical instrument in a group. We have one hour practice every week. I don't spend lots of time to practice in Orchestra. I think that the orchestra have to have more than one hour of practice a week.
I play in the church band. Actually most of people including me who play in the band is not good enough to play their instruments to play in a band. We need to practice a lot. When I started to play the bass guitar in the band, I didn’t even know how to play the bass guitar. I learned it how to play first and started to play in the band. Because I wasn’t good at the bass guitar the band couldn’t make nice sound. But now I have practiced and not I know how to play the bass guitar. The band is getting better. I have learned how to play the musical instruments in a group and how to coorporate with people. When I play as alone, there is noone to care about, but if I play as a band, I have to care about the someone else, the other player. We have about one hour practice a week. I think we need more than one hour practice a week.
I usually play the guitar and the piano in my free time. I often play the video game on the computer too. When I start to play the video game I am obsessed in it and spend lots of time. This happens in similar way when I play the musical instruments, especially the guitar. When I start to play the piano or the clarinet, I usually play it for a half hour or an hour and stop playing. But if I start to play the guitar it’s not easy to stop playing. I rarely play the guitar for 30 minutes. Most of times if I hold the guitar in my hands, I just play it for about 2 hours. My mother tries to stop me every time if I play it for so long. I think that I need to manage my time more effectively. It is good to play the guitar in my leisure, but I must not spend so much time.
-band
- Orchestra
- Soccer practice
- pool/table tennis
- volunteer for the cleaning the oil spilling in South Korea

Before I started this unit I thought that this unit will be fun, but it would be difficult to participate to class for English B students. My guess was right and while the English A students were practicing on acting, we got almost nothing to do. Furthermore there were some problems with filming. This unit took lots of time but we didn't have enough time. So we decided not to do this unit.

Process
I'm in the group of 4 people Uudee, Reeza, Tsolmon and I. We are working on talk show. There are three available scripts and we haven't decided yet. We can combine the three into one or choose just one of three. Mrs. Wilson suggested us to do the all the script we have which means we can have three different talk shows with three different scripts. But it might be hard to do and the quality of talk show won’t be as good as working on just one talk show.
More than 5 people are needed to do Reeza’s and Tsolmon’s talk shows, 8 people for Reeza’s and 7 people for Tsolmon’s. But we need only three people to do Uudee’s talk show.

Cr. A Investigation
This unit will be interesting and important unit. Shakespeare is the best playwright. Since now, no one was as good as Shakespeare.
The unit question is ‘How can we create a video presentation of a Shakespeare play that will appeal to modern day viewers’. I think to appeal Shakespeare play to modern day viewers, the language and words that he used should be changed a lot. Because he’s the person who lived in 400 years ago, and some of words that he used are not using anymore or using very rarely. To appeal to modern viewers the play should be fixed in form that will be easy to understand to modern people. Also, to make the play to be loved by many people, the play has to be appraised by many people. There are many kinds of people in the world who have different character and preference. Before you perform the play if you show your play to other people around you and ask them advice, it would be nice.

I presented about penicillin which is invented by Alexander Fleming. I wrote an essay about penicillin because I thought that writing essay is the way that would include lots of information. By writing essay, I could more information than poster. I collected information from paper that Mrs. Wilson gave me and internet.
Because I couldn’t follow the plan, my essay was a little rushed. I should start writing essay on March 8, but I didn’t and I started it on next day. I had enough time to write an essay, but I didn’t have time to revise my essay. If I had time to revise my essay would be better.
Cr. A – Investigation
Investigation for this project was much easier than other projects. Most of important information was already given to use by hand out that Mrs. Wilson gave to us. The paper included lots of information, but I needed to find more information and I found it from internet. Because Penicillin is very common medicine, I could find information that I wanted easily. Before I searched internet, I made some questions by myself and while I was searching internet, I tried to answer the every questions that I had. Some questions were easily answered by information in hand out, but some of them weren’t answered well. However, I collected most of information that I wanted.
Cr. C – Plan
Plan is not difficult part of project, but important. Before I worked on the final product I made the plan which I should follow. But I missed some process that I had planned to do. There were no big changes on my final product, so there weren’t any big troubles. My final product was rushed because I didn’t follow the plan. My plan was pretty simple because all I needed to do was finding information and writing an essay.
Cr. D – Create
For this unit you could choose the final product whatever you want, if the final product answers the unit question. I chose essay as the final product before I started searching information. Because I wasn’t prepared well when I chose my final product, I wanted to change my final product to Power Point. But When I thought about changing to other final products, I had only 2 days. So I didn’t change my final product. Essay didn’t include any pictures, but it included lots of information and I thought that essay is the best way to explain or describe something to others. And I just kept working on essay. My essay answered the unit question and included history of penicillin, invention of penicillin and some other information about penicillin.
Improvements
My final product could be a lot better. My investigation was good and answered many questions that I had. But plan was not so detailed and I couldn’t follow the plan in some parts. I didn’t have big changes because I didn’t change my final product. Also my plan was not so detailed there were any big changes. And my final product could be better. I didn’t have enough time to revise my essay. And it is rushed a little. If I revised my final product it would be better than now.
Test
1. Did I answer the unit question?
Yes, I did. The unit question was that ‘How do inventors come up with ideas and create their inventions?’ I mentioned how the inventor got the idea. At that time people already figured out that many infections and illness are caused by bacteria, but they didn’t know how to make medicine to kill the bacteria. His idea was this. He tried to invent new drug that would kill bacteria. But penicillin is created by accident.
2. Did I follow the plan?
For some parts I couldn’t follow the plan. Last Monday was Woman’s day and school closed. According to my plan, my essay must be almost finished by that Monday. But I was at my home and didn’t work on my essay. So I had to finish my essay on Tuesday.

Introduction – Brief information about penicillin and antibiotics
Body 1 – History of penicillin
Body 2 – Benefit of penicillin
Body 3 - Answer of unit question
Conclusion
Essay
Antibiotics are medicine that inhibits the growth of certain type of disease and infection. As humankind found out that bacteria or germs caused many illness, people started searching drugs that would kill the bacteria. And penicillin which is produced naturally by a mold was the first drug that people figured out. It was noticed by English medical researcher, Alexander Fleming, by chance.
Penicillin is invented by Alexander Fleming, but there were some experiments to invent antibiotic before him. In 1896, Ernest Duchesne, a French doctor, noticed that some molds killed bacteria. He recorded what he found, but he wasn’t able to carry on his research. In 1929, Alexander Fleming accidentally noticed that a blue-green mold which is produced by juice in lab killed all the bacteria around it. However, he couldn’t know how to make enough molds to treat people. In 1938 researcher at Oxford University who read Fleming’s journal about his discovery experimented with Fleming’s idea. Finally in 1941 they could make enough penicillin to treat a few patients. Before World War Two started it was not easy to get penicillin. It wasn’t produced in large quantity. But mass production of penicillin started during World War Two and the soldiers and people who got injured could be cured with penicillin.
Although some people are allergic to penicillin and it doesn’t have any effect on some kinds of bacteria, it is considered as the most popular antibiotic. One reason that makes penicillin popular is the cost of penicillin. Compared with other antibiotics, such as cephalosporin, amino glycoside and tetracycline penicillin is very cheap. Average cost of 250g of penicillin is less than 15 dollars, but same amount of cephalosporin costs more than 50 dollars. Also penicillin is relatively non-toxic and has excellent tissue penetration.
Actually the inventor of penicillin had appropriate idea, but it was invented unintentionally. Also, it was invented by one people, but it was improved by many people. The idea of inventor was inventing new drug that would kill bacteria. Before the invention of penicillin, people already noticed that bacteria cause lots of disease and infection. But they didn’t know how to inhibit or kill the bacteria. Many medical researchers started to research and experiment and some of them finally got what kills bacteria by chance.
In this unit I noticed that in inventing something, you need luck besides knowledge and skill. Usually lots of inventions were invented on purpose with correct process. But some inventions like penicillin were invented accidentally. Also, I realized that one great invention could improve people’s life style and save people. Because of penicillin lots of people had been cured during World War Two. For the last I realized that inventions could be invented by people who are not extremely smart. With some knowledge and idea everyone can make something new.

Cr. A Investigation
For this unit everyone in grade 9 chose their inventions and I chose penicillin. I chose it because I have heard a lot of information about it. Also, my mother was a nurse, so she could help me while I research it. At the end of the lesson everyone should present their research. I decided to present with essay, but it would be changed while I research about my invention.
Penicillin is the most well known antibiotic. Also, it is the first antibiotic. Lots of people tried to invent antibiotic. Some of them figure out that some fungi kill the bacteria, but he wasn’t supported well and couldn’t keep the experiment. In 1929, Alexander Fleming an English medical researchers accidentally realized that blue-green mild killed all the bacteria. It was the first penicillin, but this was not used for many people. During World War 2 there were lots of injured people who need medicine. So penicillin was being produced in large quantities.

2. Are there any side effects in the other antibiotics? What are the benefits of penicillin compared as the other antibiotics?
bactericidal against sensitive strains
relatively non-toxic
have excellent tissue penetration
effective in the treatment of infections
relatively inexpensive compared with other antibiotics.
3. How much did the penicillin cost when it was created at first? How much does it cost now?
4. Are there any differences between the cost when it was invented first and now? If there are some differences, why are there differences?
5. What’s the penicillin made out of?
It is made out of penicillin fungi.

Tsolmon and I designed an ice bowl which would keep the bowl cold for a while. It was realistic but there were several problems. First, an ice bowl is not necessary thing. It is available when you eat ice cream, so people who don’t like eating ice cream, will not buy it. Furthermore, it is not easy to keep the bowl cold. Ice in the bowl will make the bowl cold, but after some minutes the ice will melt and the ice cream or something else that was in the bowl will melt either. Outer layer of bowl is made out of china and it will be broken easily. If you pour water in the space between stainless steel layer and china layer the china layer could be cracked and the steel layer would be crooked. After that it will not be able to use it. This problem occurs because as the water become ice the volume of water is expanded.
The ice cream ice bowl is possible to make, but it will be hard to be use by many people.
At the beginning of this unit, I was researching about the skills and technologies that keep something cool or hot for a long time and I found an electrical mat. There are some tubes underneath the mat and the tubes heated by electric and become hot or warm. So I suggest to Tsolmon that tubes around the bowl. It was the beginning of our idea. I cooperate with Tsolmon. I searched and found good information. I also tried her to make poster. Tsolmon and I decided to draw a bowl in the poster and I tried to draw it. But I wasn’t good at drawing bowl, so she drew it. I didn’t have anything to write in the poster, so I brought some color markers and pencils.
In the presentation, I didn’t do good job. I had nothing to tell, because I didn’t add any explanations on the poster even though I knew about our idea.
